Criminal Charges Filed Against Congresswoman’s Shooter Jared Loughner
The following are documents filed in federal court against Jared Lee Loughner, a 22-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a Federal Judge and a congressional aide to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords herself was critically wounded by Loughner and was the target of an alleged assassination attempt.
According to the court documents:
- Jared Lee Loughner, 22, shot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords at 10:11am Arizona Time (Mountain) on Saturday, January 8, 2011 while she attended a “Congress on your Corner” event at a Safeway supermarket in Tucson, AZ.
- Not including the Congresswoman, 18 other individuals were shot by suspect Loughner
- Authorities recovered a Glock 9mm, serial number “PWL 699.” The serial number revealed the gun was purchased at a Tuscon-area Sportsman’s Warehouse.
- A search warrant was executed on the Tucson home of the Jared Loughner, shared with his parents Randy and Amy Laughner.
- Recovered from Loughner’s home was a letter addressed to Jared Loughner from Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Giffords mailed a thank- you letter to Loughner for his attendance at a 2007 “Congress on your Corner” event.
- Recovered from Loughner’s home was an envelope with the words “I planned ahead” and “MY ASSASSINATION” written in what is believed to be Loughner’s handwriting. Loughner also wrote the word “Giffords” and signed the envelope.
Loughner is expected to make an appearance in a federal courtroom on Monday.

Glad to see someone is putting their rage to work positively preparing the papers to charge this man on a Sunday is not so common in the normal course.
