The worst floods in 50 years to hit Queensland, Australia are being described as nothing short of Biblical.

More than 20 towns have been damaged or destroyed by flooding water stemming from overflowing rivers. Officials say the areas impacted by flood waters are larger than the countries of France and Germany combined.

“The cost to the state will be huge. It’s a disaster of biblical proportions.” -Queensland state treasurer Andrew Fraser

The flood waters are providing a channel for snakes and crocodiles, which are infesting businesses that are currently underwater.

More than 1,000 people have been evacuated, though officials say as the flood waters get worse, as many as 4,000 residents could be asked to vacate their homes and businesses later this week.
